Portrait Photography in Kent, WA

The photograph your family will treasure isn’t the one where everyone smiled on command.

It’s the one where your youngest was mid-laugh. Where your partner was looking at you the way they look at you when they think no one’s watching. Where the light caught something true, and the moment happened because you weren’t all holding your breath waiting for the shutter.

That’s the session we’re after. Not a series of forced poses, but a few hours of your actual life — structured enough to produce great photographs, loose enough for the real moments to emerge. We’ve built our portrait sessions around that balance, and we’ve been refining it for years.

Whether it’s a family of two or twelve, individuals, couples, or multi-generational — we work in Kent, throughout South King County, and at locations that have personal meaning to you. We’ll suggest locations if you need them. But if there’s a park where you got engaged, or a stretch of beach your family has visited every summer for twenty years, we want to work there.

Coordinating outfits for a family portrait session doesn’t mean everyone wears the same color. It means choosing a palette that works together, accounts for your location, and lets each person’s personality come through. Our Family Wardrobe Guide shows you exactly how to build that palette — with real examples, color combination recommendations, and a guide to what fabrics and patterns to avoid.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my kids won’t cooperate?

Kids not cooperating is a feature, not a bug. Some of the best family photographs in our portfolio happened because a toddler ran in the wrong direction and everyone laughed. We build extra time into family sessions specifically because real children don’t stand still on command — and we’d rather capture your actual family than a posed approximation of one.

When is the best time of year for outdoor portraits?

Spring and fall offer the most interesting light and color in the Pacific Northwest. Late summer golden hours are spectacular. But we shoot year-round — overcast Pacific Northwest skies are actually ideal for portraits because they act as a natural giant softbox. The “bad weather” that deters other photographers is often our favorite light to work in.

Can we do the session at our home?

Absolutely. Home sessions often produce some of our most emotionally resonant work — there’s something about being in the space where your family actually lives that removes the self-consciousness of a “photo shoot.” We’ll scout your home on arrival and work with the existing light and spaces.

How many people can be in the session?

Our packages list typical group sizes, but we can accommodate any family configuration. Extended family sessions with 10+ people are something we do regularly, and we have location and logistics experience to make them work. Just let us know your group size when you inquire and we’ll recommend the right package.

What Our Clients Say

“Our family portrait sessions used to end in arguments. This one ended with everyone asking when we could do it again. That has literally never happened.”
